Herbal Classes

Robin Baire, C.H., presents a series of 1 1/2 to 2 hour classes covering various aspects of herbal medicine, plus herb identification and cultivation. Classes include preparations to sample, as well as ample opportunities to get questions answered.

Topics Include:

  1. Introduction to Herbs
    Ten to twelve basic herbs with multiple uses will be discussed and demonstrated. Most of these herbs are easy to identify, to grow, or to find growing wild as "weeds." The class will sample teas and fresh plant tinctures.

  2. Herbal First Aid
    How to create your own first aid kit, with tinctures, teas powdered herbs, homeopathics, and more. You will learn about common herbs, weeds which care for common ailments.

  3. Herbal Remedies for Infants and Young Children
    Class covers some common discomforts of the early years, including colic, skin irritations, colds, earaches, and stomach aches. Preparations will include kid-friendly teas and other preparations.

  4. Herbal Aphrodisiacs
    Introduces botanicals which will help the body physically, emotionally, and creatively supports the body's own sexuality. Ideas are discussed for supporting the basic health and functioning of organs and systems of the body. Herbal teas; comforting and pleasant tasting, tinctures and massage oils are discussed and sampled.

  5. Herbal Care for Our Animal Friends
    Basic natural care and maintenance of animals on the farm or in our homes. Class covers: injuries and wound care, worming, colic, etc. The main focus is on horse and dog issues.

  6. Young Women's Herbal Allies
    The class is designed to introduce young women to herbal tools to support their bodies and take control of their own well-being in this first phase of their womenhood. It is an introduction to the smells and tastes of herbs and how they affect various systems of the body.

  7. Approaching Menopause with Herbal Allies
    This class covers information on reproductive health and organ support through herbal formulas and diet. We will discuss some of the discomforts of menopause, including hot flashes, insomnia, osteoporosis, libido and other estrogen-related topics.

  8. Herbs and Men's Health
    Covers health concerns more common to men in this society. We will discuss cardiac function, kidney function, as well as prostate care, hormone balancing, gout, depression and other topics.

  9. Medicinal Herbs of the Okanogan
    For the newly interested as well as for those with some herbal experience. This class covers the medicinal properties, and value, of locally cultivated and gathered herbs. This is a three part workshop covering a total of 30 plants. We take a detailed look at the medicinal properties, chemistry and nature of each plant. There will be dry and, if possible, some fresh samples, as well as preparations to taste, smell, and otherwise examine. With these plants you will have a good base to cover most of your herbal pharmacy needs.

Robin is a graduate of the National College of Phytotherapy in New Mexico with over 20 years experience working with herbs; with people, farm animals and pets in her vicinity.
